Çapanoğlu Hamamı
About
Çapanoğlu Hamamı is a historic double hammam on Buğday Pazarı Sokak in the Medrese neighbourhood of Yozgat's Merkez (central) district, next to the Çapanoğlu (Büyük) Mosque. Locally it is known as Çarşı Hamamı, and in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's promotional material as Çapanoğlu Çifte Hamamı. The hammam is part of the historic fabric dating from the time of the Çapanoğlu dynasty, made up of the mosque, built in two stages in 1779 and 1795, and the surrounding bazaar and shops.
As the hammam has no inscription, its exact construction date is unknown. According to the Ministry's promotional material, the women's and men's sections were built at different dates, as their structural differences suggest, and the two sections are joined in an L shape. The business uses 1793 as its founding year; a 2010 local news report also states that the hammam was built by Çapanoğlu Süleyman Bey.
Men and women bathe in separate sections. In the manner of a classic city hammam, entry, kese (exfoliating scrub) and massage services are offered; according to a local news report published in summer 2026, the hammam has been run by Metin Çelik since 1992.
According to its Google listing, the hammam is open every day from 07.00 to 22.30. An easy-to-reach stop for those looking for a traditional kese experience in a historic building and for those exploring Çapanoğlu Mosque and the bazaar around it; it is a good idea to phone before you go to ask about the current hours of the women's section.
