Sefa Hamamı

Sefa Hamamı is on Kocatepe Sokak in the Barbaros neighbourhood of Kaleiçi, Antalya's historic centre. Recorded in Ottoman documents as Makbul Ağa Hamamı, the building appears, from the annual income statement of the Makbul Ağa Mosque foundation, to have been restored in 1450. According to the business, the hammam bears the features of 13th-century Seljuk architecture, and its lower structure shows traces of the Roman period.
The changing area was renovated about eighty years ago, while the cooling room, the hot room and the furnace keep their original fabric. The hammam is still heated today by wood burnt in the furnace, whose heat passes through channels under the floor.
The traditional package consists of 30 minutes in the hammam, 15 minutes of kese (exfoliating scrub) and 15 minutes of foam massage, 60 minutes in total. The full package adds a 30-minute oil massage, bringing it to 90 minutes. During the booking the hammam is reserved for the guest alone, with no more than two people admitted at a time; couples receive kese and massage one after the other in the same room. All treatments for both female and male guests are given by a male therapist; there is no female masseuse at the hammam.
The hammam is open every day until 20.00 and works by booking only. Bookings can be made via WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, phone or the form on the website. It is a good choice for those exploring Kaleiçi who are looking for a quiet hammam experience in a historic building, away from the crowds.
