Tabak Hamamı

Tabak Hamamı is a historic hammam on Halil Cami Sokağı in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep. Mentioned by Evliya Çelebi among the fourteen hammams he visited in Antep in the mid-17th century, it is one of the nine Ottoman hammams that survive in the city today. Unlike the market hammams, it was built as a neighbourhood hammam in a residential quarter.
Most of the building was restored by the Regional Directorate of Foundations; Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality took over the hammam in 2022 and carried out the final repairs. Covering about 945 square metres, the hammam reopened as a traditional Turkish bath after the restoration.
In addition to hammam entry, kese (exfoliating scrub) and foam massage are offered as separate services, and rooms are set aside for resting after bathing. Parties are also organised for pre-wedding traditions such as the bridal hammam, the henna hammam and the groom's hammam. The price list shows separate entry prices for women and men, but no information has been published on a section or hours reserved for women.
According to its Google listing, the hammam is open every day from 10.00 to 23.30. Groups are asked to get in touch in advance, and women visitors would do well to phone before going to ask about the current arrangements. It is an option for those who want a kese and foam experience in a historic building while exploring Gaziantep.
