About

Tarihi Cinci Hamamı stands in the Çarşı (bazaar) of the Çeşme neighbourhood in Safranbolu, a district of Karabük, at the heart of the historic town on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The hammam was built in 1645 by Cinci Hoca (Karabaşzade Hüseyin Efendi), a native of Safranbolu who served as kazasker (chief judge) in the reign of Sultan Ibrahim I. Local people long called the building Yeni Hamam (New Hammam); its present name comes from its founder. Cinci Hanı (Cinci Inn), built by the same man, stands right next to the hammam.
The hammam has two separate sections, for women and for men. The building preserves the layout of a classic Ottoman hammam, with light filtering down from the domes, a navel stone (the heated marble platform) in the centre and a warm room, and it offers traditional hammam services such as bathing and kese (exfoliating scrub). Local press report that the hammam gets especially busy in the winter months and at weekends.
The closure of the neighbouring Cinci Hanı in spring 2025 did not affect the hammam; at the time, the business announced that the hammam was open and still in service. The hammam is a stop within walking distance for those exploring Safranbolu's historic bazaar, mansions and mosques.
Opening hours are not shown on the Google listing. To find out the hours and how the women's section is organised, it is best to phone the hammam before going.
