Ürgüp Hamam

Ürgüp Hamam is on İstiklal Caddesi in the Yeni Cami neighbourhood, in the centre of Ürgüp in Cappadocia. According to records cited by the business, the town hammam was built in 1726–1727 and restored in 1900–1902, with its original plan preserved. The marble inscription at the entrance bears texts in Greek and Karamanli (Turkish written in Greek letters); the Karamanli text says the building was made with voluntary contributions from the people of Cappadocia and names Haralambos Hacı Savva as its builder. Until the population exchange of 1924, the hammam was shared by the town's Turkish and Greek residents.
Under the seven domes are a heated marble navel stone (the heated platform at the centre of the hammam), sixteen kurnas (marble basins) and a steam room of about 60 degrees. The three hammam packages last 50, 60 and 70 minutes; kese (exfoliating scrub), a foam wash or foam massage, a face mask and refreshments are included. The most comprehensive package uses a separate washing room reserved for the guest or couple alone. The massage menu includes Swedish, aromatherapy, Balinese, hot stone, deep tissue and lymphatic drainage massage, as well as a four-hand massage given by two therapists.
The hammam takes no more than eight guests at a time, and bookings are planned so that people who do not know each other never share the hammam at the same time. Four private rooms for two are suitable for couples; you can choose a female or male therapist when booking. Children under 16 can come with their parents.
The hammam is open every day 09.00–23.00. Bookings can be made via WhatsApp, phone, email or the website; booking ahead is recommended in high season. Hammam packages include free pick-up and drop-off from hotels in Cappadocia, and payment is made at the hammam by card or in cash.
