About
Yalova Termal Kaplıcaları lies in the Termal district, about 12 km from Yalova city centre, within a 1,600-decare arboretum and thermal spring complex. Use of the springs goes back to the Byzantine period; in Ottoman times, new baths and pavilions were built under Sultan Abdülmecid and Abdülhamid II. Renovated after Atatürk's visit on 19 August 1929, the site is now run by the Thermal Springs Management Directorate of the Turkish Ministry of Health.
Each facility in the complex is charged separately. The outdoor pool known as Napolyon Şapkası (Napoleon's Hat) is filled entirely with thermal water; as its temperature is adjusted to the weather, it is open all year round, and it has a children's section. Kurşunlu Banyo, named after its lead-covered roof, has a pool, a Finnish bath and a sauna. Valide Hamamı, named after Bezm-i Alem Valide Sultan, is a historic hammam, while Sultan Banyo and Sıra Banyolar consist of private family cabins rented by the hour. Massage and kese (exfoliating scrub) are available for an extra charge.
For overnight stays there is the Termal Otel, opened in 1938, demolished in 1982 and rebuilt true to the original in 2009, as well as the late 19th-century Çınar Otel and apartments. Termal Otel has an indoor thermal pool, family baths, two saunas, a massage room, a gym and a car park for 50 vehicles. Hotel guests can use Kurşunlu Banyo and the outdoor pool free of charge.
No booking is needed for the pools and baths, and the facilities are open to day visitors. The outdoor pool and Kurşunlu Banyo are open 07:30–22:00, and Valide Hamamı and Sultan Banyo 08:30–22:00. With its wooded parkland, walking paths and cafés, the complex also suits a family day trip to the thermal springs.
