All five thermal facilities listed in Denizli are in the Pamukkale district: four are thermal hotels in Karahayıt and one is the ancient pool inside the ancient city of Hierapolis. Pamukkale is world-famous for its white travertine terraces and the hot water flowing down them, and the province's thermal options are clustered around these springs. The main element of a visit is the thermal pool, which most of the hotels pair with a Turkish bath and sauna.
Karahayıt is a thermal settlement near the Pamukkale travertines, known for the reddish deposits left by its iron-rich water. Doğa Thermal Hotel has the widest range of services among the hotels here: its listing includes an indoor women-only thermal pool, separate women's and men's hammams, a salt room, a cold pool, kese (exfoliating scrub), foam massage and medical massage. Richmond Pamukkale Thermal is a large hotel offering indoor and outdoor thermal pools together with a Turkish bath, sauna and steam room; kese and foam massage are also among its services. Adempira Termal & Spa Hotel, also in Karahayıt, offers mixed and women-only hammam use and salt room treatments alongside its outdoor and indoor thermal pools. Ladik Termal Hotel, meanwhile, is a small, family-oriented hotel with indoor and outdoor thermal pools, a sauna and a children's pool with a jacuzzi.
Pamukkale Antik Havuz, also known as Cleopatra's Pool (Kleopatra Havuzu), offers a different experience from the hotel spas: it is an open-air pool inside the ancient city of Hierapolis where you can swim in thermal water of about 36 degrees among ancient columns toppled by an earthquake. Its listed services consist only of the thermal pool; as the pool is inside the ancient city, a visit can be fitted into the same day as the travertines and a tour of Hierapolis. Arrangements for women and men vary among the Karahayıt hotels: Doğa Thermal Hotel has a women-only pool and separate hammams, and Adempira has hammam use reserved for women; the arrangements at the other two hotels are not recorded. You need to check with the hotel whether the thermal pools can be used on a day visit without staying. In summer, when the sun and the hot water combine in the outdoor pools, staying in the water for short spells and drinking plenty of water make the visit more comfortable. If you have heart or circulatory disease, blood pressure problems or are pregnant, consult your doctor before using the thermal pool.
