When a venue has a hammam, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and pool all in one place, where to start is a common question that rarely gets a clear answer. There is no single compulsory order, but there is a logic that works.
The basic logic
Warm up → cleanse → cool down → rest. A cool-down after every heat step, and a rest at the end.
Suggested order
1. Shower. Every use of the wet area starts with a shower. It is a hygiene rule, and it prepares your skin for the heat.
2. Sauna or steam room — 10-15 minutes. This warms the body and opens the pores. If you are using both, go for the dry one (sauna) first, then the humid one (steam): moving from dry heat to humid heat feels easier.
3. Cool-down — 5-10 minutes. A cold shower or a plunge pool. Do not skip it.
4. Hammam, kese (exfoliating scrub) and foam wash. Because your body has warmed up, kese is most effective at this point. Exfoliating treatments come after the heat steps.
5. Jacuzzi or pool. Go in once you are clean — this is also the rule at most venues.
6. Rest. At least 15-20 minutes. Drink water.
7. Massage — if you are having one, last of all. With your muscles warm and relaxed, a massage gives the best results as the final step. If you have had an oil massage, wait a while before showering.
Three common mistakes
Having kese before warming up. Kese on cold skin both hurts and does not work.
Skipping the cool-down. Carrying on between rounds without cooling down does not relax you; it tires you out.
Having the massage first. Going into the sauna after a massage makes the oil run off and undoes the effect of the massage.
Total time
A visit using all of them in turn takes 2-3 hours. When booking, ask separately how long you can use the wet area; at some venues the package time covers only the massage, and the wet area costs extra.
If you are short of time
If you do not have two hours, choose. If cleansing is your priority: shower → sauna → kese/foam wash → rest. If relaxation is your priority: shower → sauna → cool-down → massage.
Where can you find them all in one place?
If you want to use a hammam, sauna and steam room at the same venue, you can filter venues with extensive wet areas by facilities.
