Kese in Osmangazi

Three venues in Osmangazi offering kese (exfoliating scrub) are listed: two historic hammams and a thermal hotel in Çekirge. At all three, kese is on the same menu as foam massage and is offered as part of a visit to a hammam or pool that uses thermal water.

Kese: where, and for whom

Keçeli Tarihi Kadınlar Hamamı, which serves women only, offers a simple menu of a thermal-water hammam, kese and foam wash; it is the only women-only hammam on the list. At Yeni Kaplıca Erkekler Hamamı, the kese is done in the domed building with a sulphurous thermal pool; the listing states that use is divided by time of day, so check in advance who is admitted at the time you plan to go. Marigold Thermal & SPA Hotel, for its part, offers kese on the same spa menu as Swedish and Sultan massages; the hotel's arrangements for women and men are not recorded.

Kese after thermal water

After a long time in the thermal pool or beside a hot-water basin, the skin softens noticeably and the kese may feel more intense. Those with sensitive skin can ask the attendant to keep the pressure light; if you have sunburn, an open wound or a flare-up of a skin condition, it is better to postpone the kese. When you arrive or book, ask:

• whether the kese is included in the entrance fee,
• what hours the kese attendant works,
• whether you can bring your own kese,
• whether you can use the thermal pool and hammam without staying at the hotel.

How often it is advisable to have a kese is covered in the kese guide, the details of the treatment on the kese page, and the district's other hammams and thermal facilities on the Osmangazi page.
