Balinese massage is one of the Far Eastern massages that appear most often on the menus of Istanbul's spas. The venues listed in this guide are spread across districts such as Bağcılar, Zeytinburnu, Başakşehir, Beyoğlu, Küçükçekmece, Pendik and Ataşehir — so it is available on both the European and the Asian side.
What to expect in Istanbul: Here Balinese massage is mostly offered with warm oil, in 60- or 90-minute sessions. Many venues offer it as part of a spa package, together with use of the hammam or sauna; if you want to book it on its own, make clear what the price covers.
Choosing: With its medium-to-deep pressure, it suits those looking for both relaxation and muscle work. If you want a gentler session, aromatherapy massage is available at most of the same venues, as is deep tissue massage for more intensive work.
Appointments: Weekend evenings are the busiest time in Istanbul; if you can be flexible, weekday daytimes are both more convenient and quieter.
We explain in detail how the massage is done, how long it lasts and who it is not suitable for on our Balinese massage page.
