The recommended order is based on rating and number of reviews, and on how complete and up to date a listing is. A paid membership does not change the order.
Medical massage is a massage approach aimed at a specific complaint rather than at relaxation. In Istanbul, the venues listed in this guide are spread over a wide area, including Pendik, Fatih, Başakşehir, Ataşehir, Ümraniye, Üsküdar, Kartal and Küçükçekmece.
First, make this distinction: Medical massage is not physiotherapy. Physiotherapy is a healthcare service carried out by physiotherapists on the basis of a doctor's diagnosis and prescription. If the cause of your pain has not yet been identified, see a doctor first — massage is not a diagnostic method and can mask an underlying problem.
When choosing a venue: Asking about the practitioner's training and experience matters more for this treatment than for others. If you have a diagnosed condition, take any medication or have had surgery, mention it when you make your appointment.
How the programme works: Usually a plan of several sessions is drawn up rather than a single session, and home exercises are recommended at the end of a session; this is a normal part of the approach.
We explain which complaints it is chosen for and in which situations it is not given on our medical massage page.
