About
Kadırga Hamamı is an 18th-century Ottoman hammam on Kadırga Limanı Caddesi in the Kadırga quarter of Fatih, close to Sultanahmet. According to the inscription details passed on by the business, the building was commissioned by Yahya Pasha, governor of Egypt, built of rubble stone and brick, and restored in 1948 and 1952.
The hammam has two sections with separate entrances for women and men; each has its own reception area and changing cubicles. In the men's section you pass from the domed changing hall into the three-domed warm room, and from there into the hot room with three iwans and two private alcoves. The original navel stone (the heated marble platform) and the historic kurnas (marble basins) are still in use in the hot room.
If you wish, you can add kese (exfoliating scrub), a foam massage with the hammam's own soap and a short oil massage to your hammam visit. Female attendants work in the women's section and male attendants in the men's section. Prices are the same for all visitors, Turkish and foreign. A visit takes one to two hours on average; after the hammam, hot and cold drinks are available in the rest area.
The hammam is open every day of the week. According to its website, the men's section is open 07.00–22.00 and the women's section 08.30–21.00. To avoid waiting at busy times, booking by phone at least one day ahead is recommended.
