Tarihi Gedikpaşa Hamamı
About
Tarihi Gedikpaşa Hamamı is in the Gedikpaşa area near the Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı), in the Emin Sinan neighbourhood of Fatih, on the Historic Peninsula. According to the hammam, it was commissioned by Gedik Ahmed Pasha, one of Mehmed the Conqueror's commanders, and the building was completed in 1475. The domed, marble-clad hammam retains the traditional double hammam plan, with separate women's and men's sections.
The basic ritual consists of resting on the hot marble, kese (exfoliating scrub) and foam massage. The packages add a foot massage, a 30- or 45-minute full-body massage and a face mask. For those who want to use the hammam on their own without a therapist, there is also a self-service option that starts with a short introduction. Children aged 6–10 are offered a treatment with a softer kese and plenty of foam.
Treatments are given by therapists of the same sex as the guest. The changing rooms and the rooms used for massages other than the foam massage are private; as an extra, you can reserve the halvet (private section), whose doorway is closed off with a full-length curtain. Towels, a disposable kese mitt and underwear, slippers and toiletries are provided, and Turkish coffee, tea, Turkish delight, sherbet and fruit are served. One of the sections or the whole hammam can be hired for corporate events.
According to its official website, the hammam is open Monday to Thursday 09:00–22:00 and Friday to Sunday 09:00–23:00. Bookings are made via the website, by phone or via WhatsApp. Children under 6 and pregnant guests are not admitted.
